This fall, bite into Taste of Judaism!
Starting in August, get your palate ready for a delectable serving of Taste of Judaism, a free introductory course that offers samplings of Jewish Spirituality, Values and Community in three, two-hour sessions. Rabbis Samuel M. Cohon and Ben Sharff and Cantor Marjorie Hochberg serve up a tantalizing feast for all who want to deepen their understanding and get at the meat of Jewish history, practice, rituals and culture. This fun, interactive course comes with a side of delicious "tastes" of traditional Jewish foods. We're serving up Taste classes in Central, Northwest and East Tucson, and in Green Valley; there are daytime and evening classes, and free childcare is offered at a Sunday afternoon series. The open, informal tone of the class makes it easy for people to ask any questions they have about Judaism, Jews and Jewish practice. If you want to learn about Judaism, want a refresher, or want to delve more into the reasons behind the rituals, come join the class and see what it's all about. There is no cost or obligation and everyone is welcome. Bring your family and friends and come take a big, filling bite of Judaism, but please call Mila at 292-5816 to preregister to make sure we have plenty. Taste of Judaism is co-sponsored by the Jewish Federation of Southern Arizona.

Put a Face On Recovery
An estimated 26.2% people in Tucson are affected by substance use disorders, and while treatment is effective, many are hesitant to seek it due to the stigma and discrimination that often surround people in recovery. Stigma and discrimination can detract from the character or reputation of people with these disorders.  For many people, stigma can be a mark of disgrace and a barrier to receiving treatment. In 2004, 21.6 percent of the 1.2 million people who felt they needed treatment but did not receive it indicated it was because of reasons related to stigma. To help remedy this issue, Mayor Bob Walkup and the Tucson City Counsel will be presenting H.O.P.E. Recovery, Inc. a signed proclamation on Tuesday, August 8 recognizing Tucson’s support of National Recovery Month (September). The proclamation is part of the 17th annual observance of National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month (Recovery Month) and will address this year's theme, "Join the Voices for Recovery:  Build a Stronger, Healthier Community."  Recovery Month is a nationwide celebration of people in recovery from substance use disorders and the treatment providers who help them reclaim their lives. Announcing how to address stigma and discrimination when approaching treatment and recovery, and announcing Tucson’s 1st Annual Recovery Walks! will be the main focus. H.O.P.E. Recovery, Inc. is a recovery outreach ministry of Calvary Christian Fellowship of Tucson.
